Bob's Red Mill has elevated Daniel Barba to Chief Commercial Officer, a newly created position on the executive leadership team that unites the brand's marketing, sales, innovation, and consumer-insights functions under a single mandate. The Portland, Ore.-based employee-owned company made the announcement Oct. 21.

Barba had served as Vice President of Marketing since 2024, a tenure that included a full packaging refresh and the launch of the Moregetherness brand platform. He also helped bring Overnight Protein Oats, new baking mixes, specialty flours, and a reformulation of the company's Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour to retail shelves.

The Expanded Role

As CCO, Barba will take an enterprise-wide view that connects brand strategy with commercial execution — translating long-term portfolio goals into specific product launches and category expansion. CEO Trey Winthrop said Barba "brings the enterprise perspective, experience and strategic thinking needed to unite promising ideas with commercial execution."

For convenience-channel buyers and category managers, the appointment signals that Bob's Red Mill is positioning itself for a more coordinated push across its 200-plus SKU portfolio, which spans whole grain oats, flours, and baking mixes. Unified commercial leadership often accelerates new-item sell-in timelines and sharpens promotional programming — both of which matter to c-store buyers managing limited shelf and cooler space.

Approaching 50 Years

Founded in 1978 by Bob and Charlee Moore, Bob's Red Mill is eyeing its 50th anniversary in 2028 as a strategic inflection point. The company has flagged plans to extend its position in core grain and baking categories while thoughtfully expanding into adjacent segments — language that typically signals line extensions and format innovation rather than wholesale category pivots.

For the convenience channel, the brand's oat-based and protein-forward items sit at the intersection of two durable demand trends: better-for-you snacking and high-protein formats, both of which have gained traction in grab-and-go sets over the past several cycles. Products like Overnight Protein Oats, for instance, have crossover potential in chilled single-serve formats increasingly stocked by larger c-store chains.

Barba framed the opportunity in terms of reach: "We can expand the reach of the products people already love, unlock new opportunities for innovation and inspire even more people to make Bob's Red Mill part of their everyday lives."

The 100% employee-owned structure, a distinction Bob's Red Mill highlights consistently, also influences how the company paces investment decisions — tending toward longer-horizon bets on brand equity over short-term volume plays.
