The Promotion
Chipotle Mexican Grill is running Chipotle IQ for the third consecutive year, opening the three-day trivia contest to Chipotle Rewards members in the U.S. and Canada from August 18 through August 20. The prize pool exceeds $1 million in free food, distributed as BOGO entrée codes, free Cilantro Lime Sauce offers, free Queso Blanco offers, and Chipotle Rewards points. Last year's event drew more than 1.8 million completed quizzes — nearly double the 2024 figure — signaling that gamified loyalty mechanics are generating measurable engagement at one of the country's largest fast-casual chains.
Each day, players visit ChipotleIQ.com between 6:00 a.m. and 5:59 p.m. PT and answer five multiple-choice or true-or-false questions about Chipotle's ingredients, culinary techniques, and brand history. The first 8,000 players per hour who score a perfect 5-out-of-5 win a food reward — 5,000 BOGO entrée offers, 1,500 Cilantro Lime Sauce offers, or 1,500 Queso Blanco offers each hour. Players who score 4-out-of-5 earn 25 Rewards points; those who ace the quiz but miss the hourly prize window receive 50 bonus points. Up to 5 million Rewards points are available each day.
New Mechanics This Year
Chipotle is layering three additions onto the 2026 event. Daily Streaks reward members who play on two or three consecutive days with bonus points and exclusive Rewards badges, a mechanic that pushes for repeat visits to the platform and sustains engagement beyond a single session. The Silver Ticket Sweepstakes selects 53 perfect-scorers at random for a bonus question; correct answers earn free burritos for a year.
The chain is also debuting a limited-edition physical Chipotle IQ card game — the first time the digital trivia format has crossed into a tangible product. Chipotle Rewards members can enter "The Game Night Sweepstakes" by exchanging 10 Rewards points through the Rewards Exchange from August 17 through August 31, with winners receiving the card set plus a Build Your Own Family Meal.
Loyalty Strategy Context
The expansion of Chipotle IQ fits a broader fast-casual playbook of using loyalty program mechanics — streaks, badges, point multipliers, and limited-time sweepstakes — to drive frequency and digital ordering. For convenience channel operators watching QSR-at-cstore competition, the comparison is instructive: programs that tie gamified engagement to tangible food rewards tend to compress visit cycles and lift average transaction size. Chipotle's Summer of Extras loyalty push, running June 1 through August 31, already incorporates monthly streak challenges, state and national leaderboards, and side quests for additional points, positioning Chipotle IQ as the marquee week within a larger seasonal retention effort.
"Fans completed more than 1.8 million Chipotle IQ quizzes last year, nearly double the number completed in 2024," said Stephanie Perdue, Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing at Chipotle. "With new challenges, more opportunities to earn rewards and our first-ever collectible card game, we're creating an expanded Chipotle IQ experience that rewards real fandom while giving guests new ways to engage with Chipotle beyond the restaurant."
For c-store operators developing or refining their own loyalty and foodservice programs, the Chipotle model underscores a durable principle: prize scarcity (8,000 winners per hour, 53 Silver Tickets total) creates urgency without diluting the reward budget, while streak mechanics extend dwell time in the app and set conditions for digital ordering integration.
