The Chicken Play

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is leaning hard into value and variety this fall, rolling out a revamped Crispy Homestyle Chicken lineup priced from $9.99 at approximately 660 company-owned locations across 43 states beginning Aug. 18. The limited-time program, available through Oct. 18, adds four new builds to the chain's hand-breaded chicken platform and layers in seasonal breakfast items and a kids' toy tie-in designed to drive family-occasion traffic during back-to-school weeks.

The $9.99 entry point covers both the classic entrée — served with two Country Sides and a choice of buttermilk biscuits or corn muffins — and a sandwich version on a toasted buttermilk bun with Duke's Real Mayonnaise and one Country Side. Operators in the family-dining segment have increasingly used chicken as an affordable anchor SKU as beef costs remain elevated, making Cracker Barrel's pricing a straightforward value signal to cost-conscious guests.

New Builds and LTO Scope

The four new Crispy Homestyle Chicken variants split into two tiers. The Loaded Creations category brings a Maple Bacon Homestyle Chicken — topped with Colby cheese, crispy bacon, maple glaze, and ranch drizzle — and a BBQ Smokestack version stacked with bacon, fried onions, Colby cheese, and barbecue sauce. The Sauced Selections tier adds a Nashville Hot build and a Honey Butter option, both straightforward flavor-forward finishes on the same hand-breaded base. The Nashville Hot SKU in particular tracks a format that has become a table-stakes menu item across quick-service and family-dining foodservice programs over the past three years.

On the breakfast side, the chain is running Sweet Cream Caramel Apple Pancakes and Sweet Cream Caramel Apple French Toast — both topped with fried cinnamon apples, caramel drizzle, and vanilla cream sauce, and served with two eggs plus a protein choice. Apple-flavored LTOs align with a well-established fall seasonal cadence across the broader foodservice industry. Cracker Barrel is also bringing back its Granny Smith Apple Tea and Granny Smith Apple Mimosa, adding a new Sweet Honey Latte to the dispensed-beverage side of the lineup. New dessert offerings include an Apple Cobbler Cheesecake alongside the returning Carrot Cake.

Kids' Toy Promotion

From Aug. 18 through Sept. 7 — while supplies last — guests who purchase a dine-in adult entrée and a Kid's Meal on the same check receive one of six collectible B'loonie Petz toy characters. The promotion caps at six toy items per check. As an alternative, guests can take $5 off a select retail toy from the Old Country Store, reinforcing the chain's dual restaurant-and-retail model that differentiates it from most casual-dining and family-dining competitors.

"Fall can feel like a sprint for families," said Sarah Moore, Chief Marketing Officer at Cracker Barrel. "We want Cracker Barrel to make that a little easier, with food everyone can get excited about, value families can feel good about and the kind of welcome that lets them simply enjoy being together."

For convenience-channel operators tracking family-dining traffic patterns, Cracker Barrel's highway-adjacent footprint and foodservice program investments remain a reference point for how full-service chains compete with c-store foodservice on value and occasion. The $9.99 chicken price point in particular underscores the ongoing pressure on all foodservice formats to deliver perceivable value as consumers remain selective about away-from-home spending.
