For the 19th consecutive year, Domino's Pizza is teaming with the National Fire Protection Association to put fire safety messaging at customers' doorsteps — literally. During Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4–10), delivery orders from participating franchise-owned and corporate Domino's locations across the U.S. may arrive with an unexpected guest: a fire engine.
The mechanic is simple. If a delivery crew, accompanied by local firefighters, finds working smoke alarms in the home, the pizza is free. If alarms are missing batteries or otherwise nonfunctional, firefighters step in to replace batteries or install new units on the spot. The program runs across both corporate and independently franchised stores, and Domino's franchise system accounts for 99% of its more than 22,500 global locations.
The Campaign Theme
This year's push adds a timely wrinkle to the long-running promotion. Participating stores will distribute flyers focused on the 2026 NFPA theme — "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower" — spotlighting risks associated with lithium-ion batteries found in smartphones, laptops, and other household electronics. As consumer reliance on battery-powered devices has grown, so has the incidence of related home fires, making the message a natural extension of the smoke-alarm awareness push.
"Fire continues to present real risks to the public, particularly at home, where the majority of U.S. home fire deaths happen," said Lorraine Carli, NFPA's vice president of outreach and advocacy. "As newer technologies like smartphones, laptops, and other devices powered by lithium-ion batteries are used more widely in our homes, the potential risks they present reinforce the critical importance of working smoke alarms."
Why It Matters for QSR Operators
For multi-unit restaurant and foodservice operators, community-engagement programs of this scale carry meaningful brand value beyond the promotional mechanics. Domino's generated more than 85% of U.S. retail sales through digital channels in 2025, and its global retail sales exceeded $20.6 billion in the trailing four quarters ended June 14, 2026. Tying a free-product giveaway to a verified safety check — rather than a discount code — positions the brand around a civic purpose while driving delivery door swings in local markets.
Maureen Pittenger, Domino's executive vice president and chief human resources officer, said the company is proud to continue pairing its delivery infrastructure with a safety message that resonates at the household level. The integration of local fire departments into the activation also deepens ties between franchise operators and their communities — a dynamic that independent and multi-unit QSR franchisees increasingly leverage to differentiate in competitive delivery markets.
NFPA recommends installing smoke alarms on every level of a home, in every bedroom, and outside each sleeping area; testing alarms monthly; and replacing any unit that is 10 years old or no longer functioning properly.
