The Promotion
Firehouse Subs is bringing a limited-edition merchandise play to its restaurant floors beginning Oct. 28 — three plush K-9 pups priced at $9.95 each, sold exclusively at participating U.S. locations while supplies last. One hundred percent of net profits (approximately $6.16 per unit after costs) will flow to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, the brand's 501(c)(3) arm that funds lifesaving equipment and resources for first responders.
The collection, called the K-9 Crew, is pegged to National First Responders Day and draws on real working dogs: Stone, a golden retriever search-and-rescue K-9 that responded to the Surfside condominium collapse; Ember, a Dalmatian serving the Sevierville, Tenn., fire department in a community-education role; and Echo, a German shepherd that joined the Sartell, Minn., police department in 2023 through a Foundation equipment grant. The plushies are not available through Firehouse Rewards digital orders or third-party delivery apps — in-store traffic is the only path to purchase.
One-Day Fundraiser
Alongside the merchandise drop, the chain is running a single-day Hook & Ladder fundraiser on Oct. 28. One hundred percent of the purchase price of every Hook & Ladder sub sold that day — excluding taxes, combos, upsizes, and add-ons — will be directed to the Foundation. The Hook & Ladder, a menu anchor since Firehouse Subs' 1994 founding by two former Jacksonville, Fla., firefighters, features smoked turkey breast, honey ham, and melted Monterey Jack on a toasted sub roll. Catering and third-party delivery orders are excluded from the fundraiser.
"Our K-9 Crew celebrates the remarkable four-legged heroes who serve alongside first responders every day, giving our guests a fun and meaningful way to recognize their service while supporting the communities they protect," said Mike Hancock, President of Firehouse Subs.
Foundation Context
The merchandise and menu fundraiser extend the brand's existing public-safety giving infrastructure. Since 2005, the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded more than $112 million in equipment and resources to first-responder organizations across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, maintaining a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. More than 70% of funds raised trace back directly to guest purchases and brand-level activity — making in-store traffic drivers like the K-9 Crew and limited-time sub fundraisers core to the Foundation's revenue model.
For QSR operators and foodservice-adjacent retailers tracking cause-marketing mechanics, the structure here — an in-store-only collectible tied to a mission-driven brand identity — illustrates how chains with strong community narratives can layer merchandise revenue on top of traditional food sales without cannibalizing the core menu. Firehouse Subs is a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International, which reported nearly $47 billion in annual system-wide sales across more than 33,000 locations in over 120 countries as of year-end 2025, giving the Foundation's fundraising efforts broad franchisee reach.
For operators watching how QSR neighbors in or near the forecourt drive incremental visits, the dual mechanic — a limited collectible plus a one-day menu fundraiser — compresses urgency and gives loyalty members two reasons to enter the building on the same date.
