Fresh Express used the 2026 International Fresh Produce Association Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando to debut two additions to its Chopped Salad Kit lineup — the Roasted Poblano Caesar and Fire-Roasted Queso Crunch — positioning both products squarely at the intersection of convenience and restaurant-driven flavor that continues to drive volume in the value-added salad segment.

The launches are directly relevant to convenience operators. Grab-and-go fresh salads have become a meaningful component of foodservice programs at larger c-store chains, where chilled ready-to-eat product competes alongside roller grill and dispensed-beverage impulse occasions. Packaged salad kits with bold flavor profiles widen the daypart and demographic appeal of the fresh section — a category where margins and ring size both exceed center-store averages.

The New Products

Both kits are inspired by popular restaurant flavor profiles: the Roasted Poblano Caesar layers smoky chile heat onto a classic Caesar base, while the Fire-Roasted Queso Crunch leans into Tex-Mex territory. Fresh Express has more than 100 SKUs across its value-added salad portfolio and reaches an estimated 14 million consumers weekly, giving it scale to support retail velocity on new flavor entries. The company pioneered the retail packaged salad category in the 1980s with its Keep Crisp bag and has held category-leader status since.

Fabian Pereira, Vice President of Marketing and Innovation at Fresh Express, framed the launches as part of a longer innovation arc. "Our newest innovations reflect our commitment to bringing restaurant-inspired experiences into everyday meals," Pereira said. "IFPA provides an important opportunity to share our vision with retail partners and demonstrate how Fresh Express continues to lead innovation and create new opportunities for category growth."

Retail and Channel Context

For c-store buyers and category managers, the timing is instructive. Convenience operators have been expanding chilled fresh and better-for-you food sets to capture health-oriented millennial and Gen Z shoppers who historically underindex in the channel. Value-added salad kits — already marketed for single-serve convenience at retail — translate naturally into a grab-and-go cooler set alongside sandwiches and fresh-cut fruit.

Fresh Express also brought two of its Fresh Expressionists brand ambassadors to the show floor: country singer and cookbook author Jessie James Decker, and registered dietitian and cookbook author Steph Grasso. The appearances were designed to communicate the brand's "Express Yourself" platform to retail partners, emphasizing consumer personalization and nutritional accessibility — both messages that resonate with operators building health-forward fresh programs in the back-of-house cooler.

For single-store operators and regional chains evaluating salad kit facings, the product launches signal that Fresh Express is prioritizing bold, culturally resonant flavors over incremental line extensions — a strategy that has proven effective at sustaining basket attachment in chilled fresh categories across grocery and club channels.
