Refrigerated snack bar brand FROPRO Snacks is nearly sextupling its Whole Foods Market presence, moving from 70 stores to roughly 398 locations across seven U.S. regions — Florida, the South, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southwest, and South Pacific — in what the company calls its largest retail expansion to date.
The Rollout
Four SKUs are in play: Birthday Cake, Salted Pistachio Crunch, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Toasted Mallow. The Northeast and Southwest will carry Birthday Cake and Salted Pistachio Crunch only; the remaining five regions — Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, South Pacific, South, and Florida — will stock the full four-flavor lineup. All bars are positioned in the refrigerated section, the brand's signature shelf placement, though the company notes the product is shelf-stable enough for grab-and-go use.
Each bar delivers 9–10 grams of protein using organic nut butter and plant-based protein. The format is designed to appeal to consumers who find conventional protein bars overly utilitarian — a positioning that aligns with broader retailer demand for better-for-you snacks that can compete on taste as well as nutrition panels.
Why It Matters for Snack Buyers
The refrigerated snacking set has become one of the faster-moving real estate plays in natural and specialty retail. Brands that establish a credible refrigerated footprint in channels like Whole Foods often use that distribution base as a launchpad into convenience, club, and grocery — making this expansion worth watching for c-store category managers tracking emerging protein-snack suppliers. The refrigerated snacking and better-for-you bar category has drawn increased buyer attention as operators look beyond the traditional roller grill and packaged-candy mix to round out high-margin impulse sets.
FROPRO is headquartered and manufactured in Boca Raton, Florida, and also sells direct-to-consumer at its own site. Founder Matt Williams, sober since 2010, developed the original recipe during early recovery; his wife, Chelsea Williams, co-founded the brand and serves as CEO. The company has also built a mission component into its hiring, creating jobs for people in sobriety — a differentiation that resonates with purpose-driven retail buyers.
"Whole Foods gave us our first shot," Matt Williams said. "Expanding to almost 400 Whole Foods stores feels like our own comeback story coming full circle."
What's Next
With nearly 400 natural-channel doors confirmed and a direct-to-consumer channel already active, FROPRO is positioned to approach convenience and specialty grocery buyers with meaningful velocity data behind it. For c-store operators building out better-for-you snack sets and refrigerated grab-and-go, brands that have proven turn at Whole Foods represent lower-risk additions to the cooler door — particularly in formats like single-serve bars that translate directly to impulse purchase behavior at the forecourt.
