Hostess is pushing four limited-time holiday SKUs into retail — including c-store — as J.M. Smucker Co. looks to capture impulse bakery sales during the season's peak grab-and-go window. The lineup spans the brand's four core platforms: Twinkies sponge cakes, Donettes mini donuts, Cupcakes, and Sno Balls cakes, all dressed in festive packaging and seasonal flavors.

The Four SKUs

The holiday roster breaks down as follows. New Snickerdoodle Flavored Twinkies lead the push, swapping standard crème for a cinnamon-spice filling meant to evoke classic holiday cookie flavors — one of the more direct attempts to translate a baked-goods occasion into an impulse snack format. Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Donettes lean into the cozy-beverage trend that has driven dispensed-beverage attachment at the forecourt, giving operators a complementary grab alongside a hot cup. Holiday Cupcakes are the existing chocolate-cake-and-icing formula with seasonal sprinkles added, a low-risk SKU swap that keeps the planogram slot productive. Holiday Sno Balls round out the set with the brand's familiar marshmallow-coconut-chocolate combination repackaged for the season.

Separately, Hostess is launching Stuffed Coffee Cakes — a moist coffee cake with cinnamon streusel and a vanilla crème center — exclusively through Walmart, keeping that SKU out of the broader retail and convenience channel for now.

Why It Matters for C-Stores

Sweet baked goods are a consistent overperformer in the c-store single-serve snack set. The category benefits from high impulse rates at the point of sale, strong margin per linear foot relative to packaged salty snacks, and natural pairing with dispensed coffee and hot beverages — a combination that anchors morning daypart traffic for many operators. For chains running a roller grill or expanded foodservice program, seasonal bakery endcaps offer a low-labor incremental revenue opportunity without back-of-house complexity.

Limited-time flavors in the sweet snack category have historically moved faster than everyday items in the convenience channel, where novelty is a proven traffic driver. Hostess has used seasonal LTOs effectively in prior years — Pumpkin Spice Twinkies and other fall items have developed reliable sell-through velocity — and the holiday window typically runs from early November through the first week of January, giving operators roughly two full monthly resets to maximize turns.

"This holiday season, we have an exciting lineup that offers a bit of holiday nostalgia, celebrates beloved traditions, and features delicious flavors to make every moment big or small a special occasion," said Melissa Chow, Director of Marketing at The J.M. Smucker Co.

For c-store buyers and category managers evaluating the reset, the four-SKU breadth gives flexibility: a single facing on each delivers holiday presence without crowding the shelf, while a feature display on Snickerdoodle Twinkies or Hot Cocoa Donettes can drive incremental ring during the morning and afternoon dayparts. Products are available in both single-serve and multi-pack formats, supporting both the single-transaction impulse purchase and the take-home fill-in trip that convenience locations increasingly compete for against grocery and drug channels.

Operators sourcing through their primary distributor should confirm holiday allocations early — LTO windows compress quickly and Hostess SKUs in seasonal packaging historically do not carry over into the next period. Category managers tracking the sweet-baked-goods segment should note that Smucker has maintained aggressive seasonal rotation across the Hostess portfolio since acquiring the brand in 2023.
