The Redesign
Jif, the No. 1 peanut butter brand by Circana POS sales through early March 2026, is rolling out its first significant visual overhaul in more than three decades. The refreshed identity — developed by parent company The J.M. Smucker Co. — retains the brand's signature tri-color banner but drops the dated drop shadow from the wordmark for a cleaner shelf presence. New packaging imagery pivots away from the classic sandwich occasion toward broader snacking contexts: apples, rice cakes, crackers, and portable dipping formats.
New packaging begins shipping to retail in October 2026, with a phased rollout through shelves continuing into early winter. The product formulation is unchanged.
What's in the C-Store Opportunity
For convenience operators, the Jif refresh arrives at a moment when peanut butter and snack spreads are pulling incremental basket ring beyond the center-store sandwich set. Squeezable and single-serve formats — the kind that anchor c-store snack sections and grab-and-go coolers — are central to Smucker's innovation push alongside the brand update. Notably, Jif To Go, the portable cup SKU common in convenience and foodservice channels, is being renamed Jif Dippers to better telegraph its snacking use case at the point of purchase.
The rename matters on the forecourt side of the aisle. C-store shoppers skew toward impulse and single-serve, and a name that signals dipping occasion rather than "to go" functionality aligns the product more directly with how operators merchandise protein-and-dip snack combos alongside fresh fruit, pretzels, and crackers. Single-store operators and regional chains that carry Jif To Go in ambient snack sets should expect updated planogram support from Smucker's field teams as the new packaging transitions.
Brand Context
"We wanted to honor the iconic elements people know and love while bringing new energy to the shelf," said Shelly Kowal, Marketing Director at The J.M. Smucker Co. "Jif has evolved from being one of the key ingredients in a PB&J to also serving as a delicious complement to so many snacking occasions, and this new branding celebrates that."
Smucker's broader portfolio — which includes Uncrustables, Hostess, and Folgers — gives the company significant c-store exposure across frozen handheld, sweet baked goods, and dispensed beverage categories. The Jif refresh fits a larger Smucker playbook of brand modernization tied to snacking occasions rather than meal replacement, consistent with where c-store foodservice programs have been heading as operators build out better-for-you and high-protein snack sets to compete with QSR and grocery grab-and-go. Peanut butter's inherent protein story and clean-label perception give the category additional tailwind in that context.
