The Collab
Kung Fu Tea is rolling out a 15-day limited-time collaboration with Pudgy Penguins, the NFT-rooted IP brand, starting October 1 at locations nationwide. The program pairs two new beverages with a collectible trading card giveaway and blind box retail access — a play that bridges boba-bar culture with the fast-growing world of licensed fandom merchandise.
The two LTO drinks anchor the program. Pengu's Better Together Milk Tea layers Kung Fu Tea's signature earl grey base with chewy brown sugar boba. Polly's Sweetheart Slush blends strawberry and OREO Cookie Pieces into an iced, creamy format. Both drinks are built around Pax Pengu and Polly, the duo characters Pudgy Penguins has positioned as its friendship-and-love icons across meme culture and physical collectibles.
Collectibles and Retail Access
Guests who purchase either featured drink can receive an exclusive VIBES by Pudgy Penguins collectible trading card, while 100 participating locations will carry first-look access to the Pudgy Penguins Little Treats Blind Boxes — a retail collectible line with existing consumer demand. The blind box tie-in is a notable move for the boba channel, where loyalty-driving merchandise programs have become an increasingly common tool for driving repeat visits and transaction attachment.
The activation extends to New York Comic Con, running October 8–11 at booth 2821, operated in partnership with Walmart. Qualifying Little Treats Blind Box purchases at the NYCC booth come with an exclusive Kung Fu Tea BOGO voucher valid at participating New York City stores during Comic Con weekend — a tactic designed to convert event foot traffic into store visits.
Channel Context
For boba and specialty beverage operators, IP-driven LTOs have become a reliable lever for driving trial and social engagement in a crowded dispensed-beverage market. Kung Fu Tea's collab follows a broader trend of limited-time beverage programs anchored by licensed characters and collectibles, a format QSR chains have used aggressively and one that independent and franchise boba concepts are increasingly adopting to compete for younger consumers' share of stomach.
Pudgy Penguins, which originated as a blockchain collectible project, has expanded aggressively into physical retail through its Little Treats toy line, carried at major mass retailers. The Kung Fu Tea partnership represents the brand's entry into the foodservice and beverage channel — a logical extension given the overlap between its collector fanbase and the boba-shop consumer demographic. The collaboration runs through October 15, 2026, with collectibles and retail products available while supplies last.
