The Product
PepsiCo is bringing Alvalle gazpacho to the U.S. refrigerated aisle, debuting the ready-to-eat chilled soup at select Whole Foods Market locations. The Mediterranean-style product — blended from sun-ripened tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, and extra-virgin olive oil — arrives as the company makes a deliberate move beyond its core snacks-and-beverage footprint into fresh, meal-adjacent categories.
Alvalle is already an established gazpacho brand rooted in Spanish culinary tradition. The U.S. launch positions it as a grab-and-go option suited to weekday lunches, afternoon snacks, or casual meal occasions — a format gaining traction in refrigerated grab-and-go sets across grocery and foodservice-adjacent channels.
Why It Matters
For c-store and foodservice operators tracking category adjacencies, the move is worth noting. The chilled grab-and-go segment has expanded well beyond sandwiches and salads. Refrigerated soups, drinkable broths, and cold meal components have grown their shelf presence at both grocery and convenience retail, as operators look to capture the lunch and light-meal daypart with minimal back-of-house labor. PepsiCo's entry with a premium-positioned, single-serve soup signals continued investment in that traffic lane.
Pol Codina, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Food Ventures at PepsiCo, framed the strategy plainly: "As we expand our portfolio, we are focused on bringing more real, ingredient-forward foods into everyday eating occasions." Marisa Perez, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Fresh Experiences Portfolio at PepsiCo Foods U.S., added that consumers are seeking "simple, delicious options that fit seamlessly into their everyday lives" — whether as a weekday lunch addition or a casual summer complement.
Retail Placement
The initial rollout is limited to select Whole Foods Market doors, a deliberate choice for a premium-positioned SKU breaking into a new category. Whole Foods provides the ingredient-quality signaling and discovery-oriented shopper base that helps a product like Alvalle establish credibility before broader distribution. PepsiCo generated nearly $94 billion in net revenue in 2025 and holds a portfolio that includes multiple billion-dollar brands, giving it the distribution muscle to scale Alvalle quickly if early velocity warrants it.
For the convenience channel, the near-term question is whether products like Alvalle eventually migrate from specialty grocery into chilled grab-and-go coolers at larger c-store chains — a path taken by premium cold beverages, protein snacks, and refrigerated meal kits over the past decade. Chains investing in fresh and better-for-you refrigerated sets will want to track Alvalle's retail performance as a leading indicator of consumer appetite for chilled soup in impulse-driven environments.
