The Product
Pilgrim's is rolling out two new SKUs — FLAMIN' HOT® Chicken Tenders and FLAMIN' HOT® Chicken Bites — marking the first time the Frito-Lay-owned flavor platform has crossed into the frozen chicken set. Both items hit select retailers nationwide this month, adding a high-recognition flavor license to a freezer aisle that has been leaning hard into bold, snackable proteins.
The tenders deliver 20 grams of protein per serving; the bites clock in at 16 grams. Both are made with all white meat chicken raised with no antibiotics ever, carry no artificial colors or flavors, and are designed for air-fryer preparation — about 15 minutes for the tenders, roughly 11 for the bites. The air-fryer-forward positioning is deliberate: that appliance now sits in an estimated 40% of U.S. households, and frozen food brands have been racing to claim the occasion.
Why C-Stores Should Pay Attention
For convenience operators running a frozen-to-go program or a grab-and-heat back-of-house set, the Pilgrim's–FLAMIN' HOT collaboration signals where better-for-you spicy chicken demand is heading. FLAMIN' HOT as a flavor descriptor has demonstrated consistent pull across multiple categories — from chips and popcorn to mac and cheese — and its move into frozen chicken tenders positions the SKU alongside the spicy-chicken trend that has sustained strong velocity at the foodservice counter and the roller grill for several years.
Brad White, Head of Marketing at Pilgrim's, framed the launch around flavor discovery rather than heat alone. "Consumers aren't just looking for spice. They're looking for flavors they love in new and unexpected ways," he said, noting that chicken's versatility makes it the natural carrier for bold flavor platforms. Janelle Rowe, Senior Vice President of Foodservice at PepsiCo Away from Home, added that the partnership extends the FLAMIN' HOT brand into a new category and a new consumption occasion — a dynamic that c-store buyers sourcing frozen entrees and snack items will recognize as a traffic-building opportunity during afternoon and evening dayparts.
Frozen Chicken's Bigger Moment
Frozen appetizers and snacks have been among the more resilient center-store categories as consumers trade down from restaurant visits without abandoning bold flavor expectations. Spicy chicken, specifically, has been one of the highest-growth subcategories in frozen protein over the past three years, according to broad syndicated-data trends tracked across the grocery and convenience channel. A licensed flavor as powerful as FLAMIN' HOT lowers the trial barrier for a new brand and SKU, giving retail and c-store buyers a built-in consumer hook at the shelf.
Pilgrim's, a global protein processor with more than 62,000 team members and operations across 14 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland, and continental Europe, has been building its consumer-packaged brand alongside its foodservice supply business. The FLAMIN' HOT launch is a direct extension of that branded strategy, targeting shoppers who want restaurant-quality heat and recognizable flavor credentials at a freezer-aisle price point. FLAMIN' HOT® is a registered trademark of Frito-Lay North America, Inc., used under license.
