The California Milk Advisory Board (CMAB) has named 15 companies to its 2026 Real California Milk Excelerator, the board's eighth annual innovation program, which has helped alumni generate nearly $60 million in dairy-category brand sales since 2021. The cohort spans two structured tracks — a Growth-Stage Excelerator and an earlier-stage Incubator — each targeting brands at different commercialization readiness levels.
Two Tracks, 15 Brands
The Growth-Stage track carries eight companies whose products skew toward functional nutrition, RTD beverages, and experiential frozen formats with clear convenience-channel appeal. Highlights include Yah Yah Yah (Denver), a premium RTD iced latte built on Middle Eastern coffee traditions with 5 grams of prebiotic fiber and clean-label dairy; Hartman Strawberry/Acai Protein Drink (Ontario, Calif.), a freeze-thaw drinkable yogurt targeting protein and gut-health shoppers with extended shelf life; and RoseBud Ice Cream (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), which packages soft-serve in a spill-resistant pouch aimed squarely at on-the-go consumption. Tulsi Foods (Anaheim, Calif.) brings clean-label paneer positioned to cross from the ethnic aisle into the mainstream dairy case, a channel-expansion play with direct implications for grocery and convenience dairy sets.
The seven Incubator-track brands represent earlier-stage concepts including labneh, freeze-dried cheesecake snacks under Freezcake Snacks, cottage cheese-based snacks from Mac Squares, and Monava, an RTD latte formulated for healthcare workers — a format with obvious parallels to the grab-and-go dispensed-beverage and packaged-beverage sets that drive c-store inside-sales comps.
Program Structure and Prize Pool
All eight Growth-Stage participants receive access to programming, mentorship, and stipends. The program culminates in December at a live pitch event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where a judging panel will select four finalists, each receiving $30,000 in marketing support. Those four brands then compete over a 12-month in-market performance window for a $100,000 grand prize to be awarded in 2027. The December event will simultaneously reveal the $100,000 grand-prize winner from the 2025 cohort.
"After eight years, we're doubling down on commercialization, helping companies using the Real California Milk seal to scale their businesses, strengthen their path to market and navigate an increasingly challenging CPG environment," said Bob Carroll, CEO of the CMAB.
Why C-Store Operators Should Watch
The 2026 cohort reflects category forces that Innova Market Insights flagged in its Top Global Dairy and Dairy Alternatives Trends 2026 report: functionality, gut health, protein, convenience, and occasion-driven formats. For convenience retailers, those are precisely the attributes driving packaged-beverage and dairy-case velocity. RTD protein drinks, prebiotic lattes, and pouch-format frozen novelties are formats that can move on a forecourt cooler door or in a stand-alone freezer set without requiring back-of-house foodservice infrastructure.
Past Excelerator graduates — notably Petit Pot and Smearcase — have secured meaningful retail distribution following the program, providing a credible commercialization pipeline that chain buyers and category managers can monitor. Brands that exit this accelerator with retail proof-of-concept and $30,000 to $100,000 in marketing runway are realistic candidates for regional c-store dairy-case placement within 12 to 18 months.
For operators tracking emerging dairy and functional-beverage trends or evaluating new packaged-food suppliers, the Excelerator's annual cohort has become a reliable early signal of what hits the channel two to three years out.
