Two SKUs, One Push

Rudi's Bakery is entering fall 2026 with two certified gluten-free launches aimed squarely at the growing segment of health-focused shoppers who have historically struggled to find convenient, nutritious gluten-free options at retail. The Boulder, Colo.-based brand is rolling out Rudi's Gluten Free Sandos — a pre-made crustless PB&J made with Justin's Classic Peanut Butter — alongside Rudi's Gluten Free Daily Power Protein Bread in White and Sourdough varieties, both certified gluten-free and positioned at natural and conventional grocery chains.

The Sandos are the first nationally distributed gluten-free crustless pocket sandwich, according to the company. Sold frozen in 4-count cartons in Peanut Butter & Grape and Peanut Butter & Strawberry varieties, they are available now at Whole Foods Market, Kroger, and Thrive Market. The format — grab-and-go, freezer-aisle, portioned for lunchboxes or road-trip snacking — mirrors the kind of impulse-and-convenience positioning that has driven frozen handheld growth in food-and-beverage channels over the past several years. The co-branded tie-in with Justin's, a brand with strong natural-channel equity, adds credibility with better-for-you shoppers.

Protein Numbers Matter

The Daily Power Protein Bread addresses a persistent knock on gluten-free baked goods: poor nutritional density. Each serving delivers 10 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber, macros that are notable in a category where many loaves fall well short of those benchmarks. The bread launches in 18-ounce loaves at Sprouts Farmers Market immediately, with Kroger distribution coming in November.

"Gluten-free consumers have always had to compromise on taste and nutrition with bread," said Jane Miller, Rudi's CEO. "We're delivering products that help consumers enjoy more possibilities without compromise." The protein-forward positioning aligns with broader better-for-you bakery trends that have seen brands across sandwich bread, wraps, and English muffins compete on grams-per-serving as much as on taste or price.

Retail and Channel Context

Approximately 3.1 million Americans follow a gluten-free diet, and that consumer base has proven willing to pay a premium for products that perform close to conventional equivalents on taste and texture. For convenience and grocery operators carrying gluten-free sets, the Sandos' freezer-aisle footprint and individual portion sizing offer merchandising flexibility — they slot naturally alongside other frozen handheld snacks and lunchbox staples. The Daily Power loaves, at 18 ounces, compete in the specialty bread segment where shelf space is competitive but turns can justify the allocation.

Rudi's, founded in 1976, has built its lineup across a broad range of gluten-free and organic SKUs — Texas Toast, sourdough loaves, English muffins, buns — distributed nationally through Whole Foods and Kroger. The two new launches extend the brand's reach into the frozen snack daypart with Sandos and into the functional nutrition segment with Daily Power, two areas where retailer interest in gluten-free innovation has been consistent.
