The New SKU
Sangría Señorial, the non-alcoholic sangría-flavored soda founded in Mexico in 1960, is adding a zero-calorie, zero-sugar extension to its lineup. The new Sangría Señorial Zero ships in the brand's established single glass bottle and 1.5-liter plastic bottle formats, landing at select retailers and online.
The launch drops at a moment when zero-sugar NABs are pulling volume across every retail channel, including the c-store cooler. Non-alcoholic and better-for-you beverages have been among the stronger performers in dispensed and packaged cold vault sets, as operators look to widen their appeal beyond traditional CSDs and energy drinks.
The Taste-Test Data
The brand backed the rollout with a 400-person consumer taste test in which more than three-quarters of participants could not distinguish Sangría Señorial Zero from the original variety — a meaningful data point for c-store buyers weighing whether a reformulated SKU will pull repeat purchases. Flavor parity at that sample size gives category managers a credible shelf argument.
"With Sangría Señorial Zero, we're giving consumers another way to experience the unique flavor they love—with zero sugar and zero calories, without compromising the experience," said Jorge Gamboa, brand manager of Sangría Señorial.
Channel Fit
For c-store operators, the Señorial Zero SKU fits squarely into the better-for-you cold vault story that NACS data has flagged as a traffic driver for health-conscious dispensed and packaged beverage sets. The brand's existing multi-format depth — single glass, 4-packs, 30-packs, and multiple plastic bottle sizes — gives it the kind of planogram flexibility that SSOs and regional chains alike look for when adding an incremental facing rather than displacing a core SKU.
The non-alcoholic sangría category occupies a narrow but loyal niche, particularly in markets with strong Hispanic consumer bases. Sangría Señorial has held that position for more than six decades, giving the Zero extension a built-in awareness base that many emerging better-for-you NAB brands have to spend heavily to build from scratch. Zero-sugar line extensions from established brands have generally outperformed new-to-world zero-sugar launches in convenience, where trial is limited and brand recognition at the cooler door drives impulse decisions.
