The Product
Schweid & Sons, the Carlstadt, N.J.-based four-generation premium beef purveyor, is rolling out Marinated Steak Tips in two SKUs — Cajun Style and Teriyaki Style — both built around whole cuts of hand-butchered, ultra-trimmed Tri-Tip. The ready-to-cook line ships fresh and marinated, requiring no additional seasoning or overnight prep from the consumer.
For c-store retailers and foodservice buyers evaluating premium grab-and-cook proteins, the format sits squarely in the fast-growing marinated fresh meat set. NACS data and category trackers have consistently flagged value-added fresh protein as one of the highest-velocity segments inside convenience and specialty grocery channels, as operators look for differentiated alternatives to the standard roller grill or commissary sandwich program.
Why It Matters
Schweid & Sons built its trade reputation on burger blends and ground beef, placing product on both grocery shelves and restaurant menus nationwide. The steak tips launch represents a deliberate push into a new meal occasion — one that doesn't require a grill station or back-of-house execution. Marinated, portioned, and packaged for speed, the product is engineered to close the gap between foodservice flavor and retail convenience.
"Schweid & Sons has always believed that convenience should never come at the expense of quality," said Jennifer Versacci, Chief Commercial Officer at Schweid & Sons. "Our Marinated Steak Tips reflect that commitment by combining whole cuts of premium Tri-Tip with chef-inspired flavors and ready-to-cook convenience."
The two flavor profiles — smoky-spiced Cajun and sweet-savory Teriyaki — address a pair of broadly familiar taste benchmarks that resonate across protein formats, from foodservice LTOs to packaged deli sets. Pre-cut portioning also broadens the use occasion beyond a single dinner plate: rice bowls, tacos, skewers, salads, and stir-fry applications give the line genuine weekly-use potential rather than a one-off purchase.
Channel Fit
For single-store operators and regional chains building out a fresh or chilled protein section, the ready-to-cook positioning reduces shrink risk compared to raw unmarinated cuts that require consumer knowledge and time to prepare properly. The product's versatility across meal occasions also aligns with the current c-store push to capture more share of the premium fresh foodservice segment, where higher ring per basket and loyalty lift tend to follow elevated protein offerings.
Schweid & Sons products are currently available in grocery and restaurant channels nationwide. Retail placement details and distribution timelines for the new Steak Tips line were not disclosed at launch.
