The LTO
Smoothie King is rolling out two limited-time offerings tied to the Dot Cake trend — a colorful sprinkle-topped confection that drove significant social media traffic in 2026 — beginning October 27 at participating locations across its 1,200-plus unit footprint. Both items are available while supplies last.
The Dot Cake Protein Smoothie blends bananas with Smoothie King's Slim-N-Trim™ Blend, delivering 13 grams of protein per serving. The Dot Cake Protein Toast pairs a choice of chocolate hazelnut or peanut butter spread on multigrain bread for 11 or more grams of protein. Both items are finished with Supernatural Rainbow Nonpareils Sprinkles — an artificial color-free topping that replicates the crunch and visual signature of the viral original while meeting the brand's clean-ingredient standards.
Nutrition-Forward Positioning
"We're always looking for ways to tap into what consumers are excited about and put a uniquely Smoothie King spin on it," said Lori Primavera, Vice President of RD & Product Marketing at Smoothie King. "Dot Cake was the perfect opportunity to take a viral food moment and turn it into something colorful, craveable and protein-packed."
The move aligns with Smoothie King's broader push into food beyond its blended-beverage core. The Dallas-based franchise introduced its Power Eats Menu in 2025 — its first nationwide food rollout — which earned a MenuMasters Healthful Innovation award from Nation's Restaurant News in 2026. The Dot Cake Toast slots naturally into that platform, extending the brand's dispensed and grab-and-go food ambitions without requiring significant back-of-house investment at the store level.
Channel Context
For c-store operators and foodservice-adjacent franchisors alike, protein content has become a primary purchase driver in the better-for-you snack and beverage segment. NACS data has consistently shown that health-and-wellness positioning lifts transaction size among loyalty members, particularly in the morning and mid-afternoon dayparts. Smoothie King's dual-item structure — smoothie plus toast — also creates a natural foodservice bundling opportunity that could push average ticket higher during Halloween-season traffic peaks.
The use of artificial color-free sprinkles is a deliberate clean-label signal at a moment when ingredient transparency is scrutinizing everything from roller grill proteins to dispensed beverage syrups. Competing better-for-you smoothie and snack concepts have faced consumer backlash over additive-heavy seasonal offerings, giving Smoothie King a differentiation angle worth noting for operators watching the better-for-you beverage segment evolve.
Founded in 1973, Smoothie King bills itself as the original U.S. smoothie franchise. It ranked No. 17 on Entrepreneur Magazine's 2026 Franchise 500 and appeared on Technomic's Top 500 Chains list, metrics that reflect continued franchisee demand and systemwide scale relevant to any operator benchmarking beverage-bar concepts.
