The Collab
Wingstop is rolling out a limited-time SOUR PATCH KIDS Wicked Punch flavor across more than 3,000 U.S. restaurants starting Oct. 27, with Club Wingstop loyalty members getting a four-day head start beginning Oct. 23. The LTO, developed with Mondelēz International, applies a SOUR THEN SWEET redberry glaze finished with SOUR PATCH KIDS Bitz across the chain's full protein lineup — classic wings, boneless, tenders, and sandwiches.
The partnership is the opening act of Mondelēz's SOUR PATCH KIDS 13 Days of Mischief Halloween program. For Wingstop, it extends the Dallas-based chain's established playbook of flavors-as-marketing: the brand already carries 12 permanent bold sauces and routinely uses limited drops to drive app downloads and loyalty enrollment.
Loyalty-First Rollout
Staging early access through Club Wingstop before the national launch is a deliberate loyalty lever. The tactic mirrors what convenience-channel foodservice operators have used with dispensed-beverage exclusives and app-gated promotions to deepen membership engagement ahead of broad availability. For Wingstop — which generates more than $5.0 billion in system-wide sales and operates with roughly 98% of units franchised to brand partners — a short discovery window for loyalty members keeps acquisition costs low while creating social-media urgency before the flavor goes wide.
The flavor disappears from menus Nov. 5, a nine-day national window tight enough to sustain perceived scarcity. Orders are available exclusively through the Wingstop app or Wingstop.com, keeping the transaction inside the brand's own digital ecosystem rather than routing through third-party aggregators.
Brand-Cross Context
Candy-brand foodservice crossovers have accelerated across the broader restaurant and fast-casual segment as snack manufacturers look for experiential marketing beyond the retail shelf. Mondelēz — which posted approximately $36.4 billion in 2024 net revenues and owns the SOUR PATCH KIDS brand alongside OREO, CADBURY, and MILKA — gains a high-traffic foodservice venue for a Halloween campaign at a moment when seasonal confection competition is intense.
"Candy on wings? We know exactly what you're thinking. But no, seriously, it has no business being this good," said Michael Skipworth, President and CEO of Wingstop. Lauryn McDonough, Senior Director of Candy at Mondelēz International, framed the collaboration as a natural extension of the SOUR PATCH KIDS brand identity: "Transforming our signature SOUR THEN SWEET flavors into a wing flavor is exactly the kind of unexpected mischief our fans love."
For c-store operators tracking foodservice-at-cstore trends and adjacent quick-service moves, the Wingstop-Mondelēz deal underscores how brand partnerships and loyalty-gated LTOs are becoming standard demand-generation tools — a mechanic that loyalty program operators in the convenience channel have increasingly adopted to compete with QSR traffic drivers.
