The Hire
Buyers Edge Platform has named Sam Peterson as Chief Technology Officer, effective October 12, 2026, placing a veteran AI and engineering executive at the helm of technology strategy for a digital procurement network that touches more than $100 billion in annual foodservice purchasing across 350,000 operator locations.
The appointment signals an acceleration of BEP's AI-first product roadmap. Peterson will oversee the company's engineering organization, AI-enabled product development, and go-to-market delivery across BEP's portfolio — which spans digital procurement, fresh supply chain services, software solutions, and supply chain management tools used by operators, distributors, and manufacturers.
Peterson's Background
Peterson's résumé is heavy on platform consolidation and data monetization. Most recently he served as CTO at Renaissance Inc., a fintech serving the philanthropic sector, where he rebuilt engineering around AI-first delivery and stood up an AI Governance Council to manage responsible adoption at scale. Before that he held executive technology and product roles at Truckstop, Metrc, and Boats Group — the last of which involved platform consolidation and international acquisition integration ahead of a successful exit. He spent 14 years earlier in his career at Overstock.com, rising from the company's first software developer to Senior Vice President and CTO overseeing a 650-person technology, product, and program organization.
That breadth of experience across public companies, private equity-backed businesses, and international teams aligns with BEP's own position as a PE-backed platform aggregating procurement data across the full foodservice supply chain.
What It Means for Operators
For the convenience and foodservice operator community, the hire underscores how procurement networks are leaning harder into AI to extract margin and menu intelligence from transaction data. BEP's visibility into purchasing patterns at 350,000 foodservice locations — spanning c-store foodservice programs, QSRs, full-service restaurants, and institutional accounts — gives Peterson what he called "the richest foundation I've had to work with" for building data products that convert marketplace purchasing signals into operator value.
That purchasing-data footprint is increasingly relevant for c-store foodservice operators benchmarking ingredient costs against category peers or seeking supply chain resilience on roller-grill proteins, dispensed-beverage syrups, and back-of-house prepared foods. Procurement platforms with AI-layer analytics can surface pricing anomalies and substitution opportunities faster than manual GPO reviews — a meaningful lever as inside-sales food costs remain under pressure across the channel.
CEO John Davie cited Peterson's "rare combination of deep engineering expertise, proven AI transformation experience, and a track record of building teams that deliver" as central to BEP's continued platform innovation. The company competes in a foodservice procurement technology space where GPO consolidation and supply chain digitization have intensified over the past three years, with operators demanding faster, data-richer sourcing tools.
