Ferrero Group has signed an agreement to acquire Purely Elizabeth, the Boulder, Colorado-based better-for-you breakfast brand, in a move that extends the Luxembourg confectionery giant's footprint in the fast-growing wellness and morning-occasion segment. Deal terms were not disclosed; closing is expected in the coming months, subject to regulatory review.

The Brand and Its Trajectory

Founded in 2009 by holistic nutrition counselor Elizabeth Stein, Purely Elizabeth has built its name on granola, oatmeal, and cereal products centered on ancient grains, oats, whole grains, nuts, and seeds. The brand has more than doubled its sales over the past two years and has recently moved into the protein segment — a category that has drawn significant retailer attention across grocery, club, and convenience channels. Stein will remain as Founder and CEO alongside the existing leadership team, and the brand will operate as a standalone unit within Ferrero.

For convenience retailers, Purely Elizabeth represents a better-for-you breakfast set that travels well into grab-and-go and single-serve formats. The brand's premium positioning and clean-label profile align with the broader shift operators are tracking in their dispensed-beverage and morning-daypart adjacencies, as shoppers increasingly treat c-stores as a legitimate stop for functional, nutritious starts to the day.

Ferrero's U.S. Breakfast Strategy

The acquisition is Ferrero's second major U.S. breakfast play in as many years. The group closed its acquisition of WK Kellogg Co in 2025, adding legacy cereal brands to a portfolio that already includes Nutella, Kinder, Ferrero Rocher, and Tic Tac. Giovanni Ferrero, President of Ferrero International S.A., said the Purely Elizabeth deal "reinforces both its presence at breakfast time in America and its reach in the better-for-you segment," explicitly linking it to the Kellogg transaction.

Lapo Civiletti, President of Ferrero Ice Cream and WK Kellogg Co, framed the deal as a long-term category bet. "Purely Elizabeth has built a distinctive brand by being in tune with evolving consumer preferences through premium, innovative and delicious products," Civiletti said, noting the brand is a "highly complementary addition" to the group's portfolio.

Beyond the U.S., Ferrero has assembled a set of wellness-adjacent brands that includes Eat Natural and FULFIL in Europe, Power Crunch in North America, and Bold Snacks in Brazil — signaling a deliberate global push into better-for-you snacking that goes well beyond its heritage confectionery base.

What It Means for the Channel

For c-store buyers and category managers, Ferrero's backing gives Purely Elizabeth access to materially expanded distribution infrastructure. Ferrero has demonstrated with past acquisitions — Nestlé's U.S. confectionery business in 2018, Fannie May, and most recently WK Kellogg — that it moves aggressively to widen shelf presence after a deal closes. Operators who have watched better-for-you breakfast and snack sets grow at the expense of legacy impulse items should expect Purely Elizabeth to press for more facings in the morning-snack and healthy-grab-and-go bays.

The protein expansion Purely Elizabeth has begun is particularly relevant for convenience. Protein-forward snacks and breakfast items rank among the fastest-growing segments in the channel, and single-store operators and regional chains alike have been resetting cooler and center-store space to capture that demand. A Ferrero-backed Purely Elizabeth with a protein line and broadened distribution could become a more frequent conversation at the buyer level sooner than the deal's closing timeline might suggest.

Ferrero has committed to preserving the brand's "entrepreneurial spirit" — a standard post-acquisition pledge, but one that matters here because Purely Elizabeth's premium positioning and direct connection to wellness culture are core to its velocity. Whether that identity survives integration into a global conglomerate's commercial machine is the question operators and distributors will watch closely over the next 12 to 18 months. For now, the brand's better-for-you breakfast credentials and double-digit growth trajectory make it a name worth tracking on the next planogram reset.
