Fresh produce procurement specialist Buyers Edge Platform is folding three distinct business units — Produce Alliance, Fresh Concepts and its existing Fresh Alliance procurement arm — into a single brand called Fresh Alliance, the company announced Aug. 25. The six-month transition will consolidate more than 200 staff and is designed to sharpen the company's footprint in fresh supply chain management for foodservice operators and distributors.
Leadership Transition
Christopher Rheault, who previously led each of the three brands being merged, has been named president of the unified Fresh Alliance. He succeeds David Liesenfelt, who led Buyers Edge Platform's Fresh Division and will retire in February 2027 after more than four decades in the industry. Rheault will report to Buyers Edge Platform's executive leadership and is tasked with building on the infrastructure Liesenfelt put in place.
"Fresh Alliance is more than a name change; it is the next chapter in our commitment to leading the fresh supply chain across the globe," Rheault said. "Our customers will continue working with the people they know and trust, now backed by even greater resources, technology and expertise."
Scale and Tech Investment
The rebrand is not purely structural. Buyers Edge Platform says the unified entity will accelerate investment in AI-powered procurement tools, deepen its international capabilities and expand resources aimed at helping customers optimize fresh produce programs and supply chains. John Davie, CEO of Buyers Edge Platform, framed the consolidation as a scale play: combining deep category expertise across three organizations while increasing investment in technology that creates measurable value for grower-shipper partners, distributors and operators.
For convenience channel operators, fresh produce procurement has grown in strategic importance as more chains push beyond roller grill staples into grab-and-go salads, fresh-cut fruit and better-for-you prepared foods. Foodservice-at-cstore programs increasingly depend on reliable fresh supply chains, and consolidated procurement partnerships — particularly those backed by digital platforms and AI forecasting — can help operators manage spoilage risk and negotiate supplier terms more efficiently. Industry data from NACS has consistently flagged fresh and better-for-you as among the fastest-growing inside-sales categories at convenience retail.
Buyers Edge Platform's digital procurement network sits upstream of the store level, serving operators and distributors across segments, but the consolidation signals the kind of vendor infrastructure investment that trickles directly into foodservice program execution at the forecourt and back-of-house level. Chains looking to grow fresh offerings will now face a larger, better-resourced counterpart on the procurement side.
The six-month integration timeline keeps customer-facing relationships intact — existing contacts stay in place — while the back-end supplier network, technology stack and team structure are unified. Fresh Alliance will also continue expanding internationally to support customers operating across borders, a capability that matters increasingly to large regional chains and multi-unit convenience operators sourcing specialty produce.
