The Offer

Insomnia Cookies is running its eighth annual PJ Party on Tuesday, Sept. 15, handing one free Classic cookie to any guest who walks into a U.S. or Canada location wearing pajamas — no purchase, no loyalty membership required. The chain's full network of more than 360 bakeries participates, with most locations celebrating from 8 p.m. until close.

The event has scaled steadily since its 2019 debut. Last year the Philadelphia-based late-night bakery concept distributed approximately 67,000 free cookies in a single night, a figure that underscores the promotional firepower a campus-focused foodservice brand can generate by leaning into a captive, back-to-school audience.

Campus Footprint in Focus

Of the chain's total network, 174 campus bakeries are staging expanded celebrations this year. At 149 of those locations, giveaway items — koozies, totes, sticker packs and eye patches — are available while supplies last. The remaining 25 designated enhanced PJ Party bakeries add prize-wheel spins for Insomnia playing cards and branded trucker hats. Operators looking to benchmark experiential traffic-driving tactics will find the tiered execution — standard network vs. enhanced nodes — a useful model for layered in-store activation.

Beyond the free cookie, the chain is stacking additional offers on Sept. 15: 25.0% off ice cream cups or pints in-store all day, and double Rewards points for loyalty members across eligible channels. A buy-six-get-two-free deal on Classic cookies runs in-store through Sept. 27, while a buy-12-get-four-free offer is available through the Insomnia Cookies app through the same date — a deliberate push to migrate casual traffic into the loyalty program.

Dream Dorm Sweepstakes

The chain is pairing the in-store event with a social-media sweepstakes it calls the Dream Dorm Giveaway. One college-student winner receives free Insomnia Cookies for a year alongside a prize bundle that includes a Hatch Restore 3 smart alarm, a Lola Blankets set, Brooklinen sheets, a pajama set from BedHead PJs, headphones, an espresso machine and a $200 gift card. Entry requires posting to Instagram or TikTok in pajamas with a cookie, tagging @insomniacookies and using #InsomniaPJParty. The sweepstakes window runs from 8 p.m. ET Sept. 15 through 11:59 p.m. ET Sept. 16.

For convenience and foodservice operators, the PJ Party illustrates how late-night foodservice programs can convert the September back-to-school surge — one of the strongest seasonal traffic windows for campus-adjacent retail — into loyalty enrollment and repeat-visit behavior. Chains that operate near college markets, including a growing number of c-store operators with expanded foodservice sets, compete directly for the same late-night snack occasion Insomnia has built its brand around. Dispensed beverage and fresh-baked programs at convenience locations face a well-resourced, purpose-built competitor in this daypart.
