Java Factory is rolling out officially licensed coffee flavors under the Klondike®, Good Humor® and Popsicle® banners, the South Plainfield, N.J., roaster announced Sept. 14 — marking the first time those frozen-treat icons have extended into the packaged coffee category. The releases are the centerpiece of Ice Cream Truck Season, the second themed chapter of Java Factory's Flavor52 program, a year-long effort to introduce 52 distinct flavored coffees across 52 consecutive weeks.

The Drop Schedule

Flavors hit retail on a Monday cadence, giving c-store and grocery buyers a predictable replenishment cycle and built-in repeat-visit incentive. The current Ice Cream Truck Season lineup: Klondike® (Sept. 14), Raspberry Italian Ice (Sept. 21), Popsicle® Firecracker (Sept. 28), Good Humor® Chocolate Éclair (Oct. 5), Good Humor® Toasted Almond (Oct. 12), and a Mystery Halloween Flavor (Oct. 19). Creamsicle® and Breyers® Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough round out the season as additional frozen-treat-inspired releases. All SKUs are built on specialty-grade 100% Arabica Brazilian coffee, developed in collaboration with Flavor & Fragrance Specialties (FFS), a division of Lucta.

"The idea that you can wake up and drink a coffee inspired by a Klondike bar, a Good Humor Chocolate Éclair or a Popsicle Firecracker is exactly what Flavor52 is about," said Sam Blaney, Executive Vice President of Java Factory. "We're taking flavors and brands people already have an emotional connection to and putting them somewhere they never expected to find them: their coffee cup."

Why Operators Should Take Note

For c-store buyers, the licensed-collaboration model addresses a persistent challenge in the packaged beverage set: keeping the coffee gondola fresh between seasonal resets. Most flavored coffee programs run on a slow annual cycle — pumpkin spice arrives in August, peppermint mocha in November, and not much changes in between. Flavor52's weekly-drop structure is borrowed from the limited-edition playbook that has driven incremental impulse volume in snacks and candy for years.

"While some companies may introduce pumpkin spice once a year, we're delivering a new discovery every seven days. Flavored coffee shouldn't have a season. It should have a calendar," said Blaney. Steven Schrieber, President of Java Factory, framed the ambition in category terms: "Those [snack and candy] categories are constantly creating something new for consumers to discover. Coffee has largely been operating on a much slower cycle."

The weekly-release structure also feeds a consumer engagement mechanic: shoppers can track all 52 flavors and vote on favorites through a leaderboard at javafactory.com. The highest-rated coffees will earn permanent spots in the lineup, while lower-ranked flavors retire when Flavor52 concludes — a format that echoes loyalty-driven foodservice programs that use member voting to extend dwell time and visit frequency.

The Bigger Flavor Play

Flavor52 spans six themed seasons across the full year — Throwback Collection, Ice Cream Truck, Sweater Weather, Wild Ones, Just Desserts, and The Finale — and is designed to conclude at the 2027 Summer Fancy Food Show, where Java Factory plans to unveil its 52nd flavor. The program is also part of the company's stated pursuit of a Guinness World Records title for the most unique coffee flavors launched by a single brand in one year.

FFS flavor specialists handle development and sensory refinement for each concept, translating the aroma, taste profile, and nostalgic cue of the source brand into a roasted-coffee format — a technical challenge that goes well beyond standard flavoring, given coffee's own pronounced aromatic character.
