Mission Craft Cocktails is converting a social-media joke into a shelf-ready SKU: the Pickle-Rita, a 25% ABV dill-infused margarita that joins the Orange County brand's growing ready-to-drink lineup and is slated to land at Total Wine & More, Costco, and Ralphs this fall.

The new expression is made with premium tequila sourced from Productos Finos de Agave, a third-generation, family-run independent distillery that the brand named as its new tequila partner. The Pickle-Rita rounds out a margarita portfolio that already includes a Classic Margarita, Jalapeño Pineapple Margarita, Strawberry Margarita, Watermelon Margarita, and the recently released Tamarind Margarita — a range that covers both mainstream and emerging flavor profiles that have been gaining shelf space in the better-for-you and premium RTD segment.

Origin of the SKU

Founders Amit Singh and Marcin Malyszko say the product began as an April Fools' Day tease. "When we teased a spiked pickle cocktail last April, we expected a few laughs," they said. "Instead, people flooded our inboxes asking where they could actually buy it. We couldn't leave the pickle lovers hanging, so we got to work creating the Pickle-Rita." That kind of consumer-pull demand is increasingly a signal brands and buyers watch before committing to a full production run — particularly in a crowded RTD aisle where shelf velocity determines resets.

Pickle-flavored beverages have moved well beyond novelty status in the convenience and specialty-retail channel. Pickle-brine shots and pickle-flavored energy drinks have logged meaningful velocity at forecourt-adjacent coolers, and the flavor's brine-forward, savory profile maps neatly onto the cocktail-quality RTD tier that chains are actively expanding. For buyers evaluating the back-of-house cooler set, the Pickle-Rita's 25% ABV bar-strength positioning differentiates it from lower-ABV malt-based seltzers that dominate the mainstream RTD shelf.

Impact and Distribution

Mission's distribution footprint — Total Wine, Costco, and Ralphs — skews toward grocery and specialty retail rather than traditional c-store forecourt accounts, but the brand's bar-strength, single-serve format aligns with the premium RTD segments convenience operators have been building out as they compete with liquor stores and on-premise accounts for the take-home cocktail dollar. The premium RTD and alcohol category continues to outperform total beverage alcohol in compound growth, according to category trend reporting.

The company's One Bottle = One Meal program with Feeding America ties each unit sold to a donated meal; the brand has funded 1,675,924 meals to date and is targeting 2,000,000 by year-end 2026. Mission uses locally sourced California ingredients, a provenance story that resonates with the specialty and natural channel buyers who influence regional planogram decisions. Operators evaluating emerging RTD brands for limited cooler slots should note that cause-marketing programs have shown measurable lift in shopper trial for new-to-shelf alcohol SKUs.

No suggested retail price or specific case-pack configuration was disclosed ahead of the fall launch.
