The Menu Build
Panera Bread is leaning into holiday beverage occasioning with two new espresso platforms — Peppermint White Mocha and Pistachio White Mocha — each available in three formats: latte, iced coffee, and Frozen Java. The peppermint build finishes with peppermint bark pieces; the pistachio with pistachio pieces. Both lattes and Frozen Java versions carry whipped cream. Paired with the new dispensed-beverage rollout are two bakery additions: a Cocoa Marshmallow Cake Slice and a returning Mitten shortbread cookie.
The holiday lineup is live now across all 2,244 company and franchise bakery-cafes in 48 states, Washington D.C., and Ontario, Canada — operating as Panera Bread or Saint Louis Bread Co.
The Collectible Cup Play
The higher-margin hook is a limited-edition glass Snowman Cup, sold in mystery boxes (one cup per box) that reveal one of two designs. The cups retail for $22 each at Shop.PaneraBread.com. On December 3 only, the first 12 customers at participating cafes to make an in-cafe cashier purchase of $25 or more will receive one free — a scarcity mechanic designed to drive traffic during the mid-week holiday calendar. Kiosk, Rapid Pick-Up, drive-thru, and delivery orders are excluded from the December 3 promotion.
"The holidays are about coming together, enjoying great food and making memories, even when things get a little messy," said Andy Rebhun, Chief Marketing Officer, Panera Bread. "It's our way of making the everyday moments of the holidays feel a little more special."
Foodservice and Channel Context
For fast-casual operators, holiday LTO beverage programs have become a key lever for lifting dispensed-beverage attachment and driving loyalty enrollment. Panera's MyPanera rewards program is being pushed alongside the seasonal launch as a points-earning vehicle — a tactic increasingly common as chains compete for share of the morning and afternoon dayparts that convenience-and-café formats both court.
The move tracks with broader foodservice trends showing that limited-time packaging and collectible merchandise consistently outperform straight price promotions in generating social amplification and repeat visits. Collectible cup programs in particular have proven effective at driving impulse purchase behavior across both quick-service and fast-casual channels, with scarcity mechanics — capped here at 12 cups per café — amplifying perceived value. At roughly 2,200 units systemwide, Panera's footprint gives the program national reach that few fast-casual competitors can match, putting pressure on regional bakery-café and coffee-forward c-store foodservice programs heading into the fourth quarter.
