The Retail Move

Ritter Sport is placing its large-format 7.7oz DUOs bars in 900 Target stores nationwide starting this month, marking one of the German premium chocolate brand's most significant U.S. retail expansions to date. The line, first introduced in fall 2025, retails at $9.75 SRP and is also available at World Market. Two SKUs anchor the Target set: Sweet & Salty DUO, which layers caramel cream and salty butter biscuit pieces with chocolate brownie, and the new Cookie DUO, which pairs chocolate cream and crunchy cookie pieces against vanilla cream with cocoa and vanilla biscuit pieces — both enrobed in milk chocolate.

The DUOs format plays directly into a sustained consumer preference for multi-texture, flavor-layered confections in the premium tier. Nielsen total U.S. xAOC data through July 11, 2026 show Ritter Sport as the fastest-growing premium chocolate brand in the U.S., a position the company attributes to its whole-ingredient inclusions and rotating flavor pipeline.

Fall Innovation Push

Alongside the Target launch, Ritter Sport is introducing two fall innovations in seasonal standup bags: Mixed Caramel Minis and Caramel Choco Cubes. The Mixed Caramel Minis assortment contains three varieties — Caramel Pretzel, Caramel Popcorn, and Double Caramel Crunch — each leaning into the salted-caramel flavor profile that the brand says has become a domestic fan favorite since launch. Caramel Choco Cubes deliver a bite-sized milk chocolate shell with double caramel layers. Both standup bag formats start at $6.89 SRP and are rolling into Publix, CVS, Kroger, The Fresh Market, Raley's, HyVee, and Woodman's.

Chris Avery, Vice President of Sales for Ritter Sport USA, framed the dual launch as a deliberate effort to hold shelf space across multiple retail channels simultaneously. "From our new DUO bars to the fall caramel innovations, we're continuing to bring fresh chocolate experiences to the category that align with the season," Avery said.

What It Means for the Channel

The move is worth watching for convenience retailers tracking impulse-confection trends. Premium chocolate has outpaced the broader candy category in dollar growth for three consecutive years, driven partly by consumers trading up from standard milk-chocolate bars to branded, inclusion-heavy formats. Large-format bars above $8 SRP — once rare in mass and drug — are now routine at grocery, creating category pressure that convenience operators increasingly feel at the checkout impulse set.

Ritter Sport's salted-caramel build-out is also a signal for candy and snack category managers weighing which premium flavors merit dedicated shelf real estate versus clip-strip placement. Caramel-salt hybrids have demonstrated staying power beyond seasonal windows in adjacent snack categories, and the brand's decision to lead its fall bag assortment with three distinct caramel SKUs rather than one suggests confidence in the flavor's repeat-purchase rate.

For operators benchmarking confection resets, the Ritter Sport Target rollout offers useful context on how premium chocolate brands are prioritizing high-traffic mass retailers before filtering into convenience — a sequencing pattern that foodservice and packaged-goods suppliers have used increasingly since 2022 to build brand familiarity before approaching the c-store channel directly.
