Chartwells K12 is opening the 2026–27 school year with Pizza Daze, a 91-day limited-time foodservice promotion active August 3 through November 1 across its roughly 4,500 school accounts nationwide. The campaign marks the operator's first seasonal LTO of the new academic calendar and leans into student preference data showing 98% of students rank pizza as a favorite food.
What's on the Menu
The promotion expands well beyond a standard cafeteria slice. New entrée builds include Popcorn Chicken & Hot Honey Pizza and Dill Pickle Ranch Pizza, alongside returning favorites like Hawaiian Pineapple & Turkey Ham Pizza and Cheeseburger Pizza. Pizza-adjacent formats — Pepperoni & Cheese Calzones, Mozzarella Stuffed Rip & Dip, and handcrafted flatbreads — add variety across the daypart. A globally inspired tier developed through Chartwells' existing Global Eats program brings Korean Beef Bulgogi Pizza, Roasted Jerk Chicken Pizza, and Char Siu Style Pork Pizza to the rotation, threading international flavor exposure into a familiar format students already accept.
At participating schools, a Build Pizza Student Choice station lets students customize their own pies before they're baked fresh on the serving line — a format that mirrors the made-to-order foodservice models convenience operators have used to drive repeat traffic and check growth.
Compliance and Program Context
All new recipes are designed to meet current National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program guidelines, a non-negotiable for Chartwells' district partners who carry compliance risk. The promotion runs through October, intentionally timing its peak around National School Lunch Week, with themed in-cafeteria marketing and retail pairings supporting the window.
Pizza Daze follows a run of seasonal campaigns — Dip'n to Flavor, Chili Days: Warm Bellies, Bloom Into Breakfast, and Foodie Fest — that Chartwells has used to structure engagement across the school year. The LTO model, long a core lever for foodservice operators managing student participation rates, gives the kitchen team a defined culinary narrative to merchandise and gives students a reason to revisit the lunch line rather than skip it.
Ashley Kakas, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Chartwells K12, framed the campaign around familiarity as an entry point: "Pizza has an incredible way of bringing people together. With Pizza Daze, we're taking something students already love and giving it an exciting twist through new flavors, fresh experiences, and interactive dining opportunities."
Chef Peter Gilhooly, Senior Vice President of Culinary Services, added that predictability is the real competitive threat in school foodservice: "Pizza is one of those foods that students never get tired of, but that doesn't mean it has to be predictable."
With 18,000 associates operating across 4,500 schools — a footprint that spans large public districts down to small charter and private institutions — Chartwells K12 has the scale to run a coordinated national LTO while still executing local customization at the school level. For the broader noncommercial foodservice segment, the campaign reinforces a growing pattern: operators are borrowing promotional cadence from the commercial restaurant world to solve a participation and engagement problem that has intensified since the pandemic-era school meal disruptions.
