The Deal

Gopuff is joining the Instacart Marketplace and adopting Instacart's Carrot Ads platform to power advertising on its own digital storefront — a two-part arrangement that gives the instant-commerce operator both distribution and enterprise-grade retail media infrastructure in a single move. Instacart customers will gain access to Gopuff's catalog of more than 5,000 everyday essentials — fresh groceries, snacks, beverages, household staples — with orders fulfilled directly by Gopuff from its micro-fulfillment center network in as fast as 15 minutes.

For the convenience channel, the partnership is a marker of how instant commerce and traditional c-store delivery are converging. Gopuff's vertically integrated model — it owns inventory, operates fulfillment centers 365 days a year with 24/7 availability in select markets, and controls last-mile delivery — positions its assortment as a direct substitute for the forecourt-to-counter trip that defines the c-store value proposition. Listing on Instacart's marketplace, which already carries more than 2,200 national and local retail banners representing nearly 100,000 stores, significantly expands Gopuff's consumer touchpoints without adding physical infrastructure.

The Retail Media Angle

The Carrot Ads integration is arguably the more structurally significant piece. More than 9,000 brand advertisers already running campaigns through Instacart Ads will be able to extend those buys to reach Gopuff and BevMo! consumers — a pool Gopuff describes as skewing heavily toward Gen Z and Millennials shopping across all dayparts, including late night. For CPG brands selling into the c-store and on-demand channel, that's incremental reach against a demographic that indexes high on impulse and immediate-need purchases.

Carrot Ads is Instacart's white-label retail media stack, now powering more than 310 commerce partners. It brings standardized measurement, campaign optimization, and accredited attribution to retailers that would otherwise build or license that capability independently. Gopuff will use Carrot Ads' customization options to tailor ad formats to its platform's behavior patterns, while Gopuff Ads — the company's existing direct-brand business — continues to run bespoke full-funnel activations including sampling and offsite placements.

What's Next

The Gopuff listing on Instacart's marketplace is described as coming "soon," with no firm launch date disclosed. The partnership expands on an existing relationship: BevMo!, the specialty beverage retailer owned by Gopuff, has operated as an Instacart Marketplace partner for same-day delivery of beer, wine, and spirits. That prior integration likely de-risked the technical and operational due diligence for the broader deal.

Ali Miller, General Manager of Advertising at Instacart, framed the Carrot Ads extension as a response to advertiser fatigue with fragmented retail media buys. "In an increasingly fragmented retail media landscape, the Instacart Ads ecosystem makes it easier for brands and agencies to optimize, manage, and measure campaigns through one connected platform," she said. Alberto Menolascina, Chief Business Officer at Gopuff, pointed to fulfillment speed and accuracy as the operational differentiator Gopuff brings to the expanded audience.

For c-store operators and foodservice-at-retail teams watching the on-demand delivery space, the deal signals that aggregator platforms and instant-commerce players are tightening their integration — compressing the window between consumer intent and fulfilled order in ways that parallel, and increasingly compete with, the convenience channel's core traffic driver. Operators tracking delivery and loyalty trends should note that Instacart's retailer ecosystem now encompasses a direct instant-commerce competitor alongside traditional grocery and drug banners.
