Hershey's Dot's Pretzels, the company's top-ranked pretzel brand by Circana dollar sales, is adding a limited-time Chipotle Honey variety to its lineup this fall, giving c-store snack sets a seasonal flavor play timed to football traffic.
The new SKU pairs sweet honey with smoky chipotle heat alongside the brand's signature buttery seasoning. Dot's is positioning it as a complement to its Original Pretzels rather than a replacement — a two-SKU game-day strategy that could help operators capture incremental ring from shoppers building watch-party spreads.
The Retail Opportunity
Salty snacks remain one of the strongest inside-sales categories at the forecourt. According to NACS, packaged snacks consistently rank among the top inside-sales contributors across the channel, and limited-time flavors have become a reliable traffic driver for both single-store operators and large chains. A bold LTO with a defined seasonal window creates urgency that evergreen SKUs cannot, which is precisely the lever Hershey is pulling here.
Natalie Perera, VP of Salty Snacks at The Hershey Company, framed the launch around the idea that football rituals drive repeat purchase. "What makes Dot's Pretzels different is the bold, buttery-rich flavor, signature seasoning and unmistakable crunch that fans keep coming back to every football season," she said. The Chipotle Honey SKU, she added, gives shoppers "a sweet and smoky new way to shake up their spread."
Athlete Partnership
To amplify the program — titled "A Winning Season Tastes Like Dot's" — Hershey signed rookie football player Caleb Downs as a brand partner. The campaign draws a parallel between an athlete's pregame routine and the rituals fans build around game day, a framing designed to generate social and creator content throughout the fall season. Downs noted the Chipotle Honey variety had become part of his own snack rotation, lending the product an in-season credibility that generic brand endorsements typically lack.
Availability, package sizes, and pricing for Dot's Chipotle Honey Pretzels vary by retailer, with the LTO rolling out at stores nationwide through the football season. For operators evaluating planogram space, the seasonal-window construct is worth noting: stocking both the Original and Chipotle Honey varieties through the fall could lift average transaction size on salty-snack purchases, particularly during weekend high-traffic periods when game-day shoppers tend to overbuy.
Hershey, which reported more than $11.7 billion in annual revenues across its broader portfolio, has leaned into salty snacks as a growth pillar alongside its confection and functional-snacking lines. Dot's sits alongside SkinnyPop, LesserEvil, and Pirate's Booty in the company's salty segment — a roster that gives the Hershey sales force significant shelf-negotiating leverage with convenience retailers of all sizes.
