Land O'Lakes is broadening its cheese footprint on two fronts this back-to-school season: a new single-serve snack cube line rolling into Northeast grocery chains and a nationwide dairy-case push for its top-selling Deli American slices at select Kroger locations.
The new Land O'Lakes Snack Cheese Cubes, priced at $5.99 MSRP, arrive in three flavors — Colby Jack, Pepper Jack and Extra Sharp White Cheddar — each pack containing eight 1-ounce individually wrapped portions. Initial retail doors include Stop & Shop, Price Chopper and Giant banner stores across the Northeast. The format targets the lunchbox and afterschool snack occasion, a day-part that c-store operators and grocery retailers have both been competing to own as on-the-go family routines intensify in the fall season.
Deli Counter to Dairy Case
Simultaneously, Land O'Lakes is moving its Deli American — ranked the No. 1 Deli American by L52-week sales data through July 12, 2026 — off the service deli counter and into self-serve dairy cases at Kroger stores nationwide. The pre-sliced, $4.49 MSRP product is positioned as a convenience play for shoppers who want deli-quality melt and creaminess without queuing at the counter. Pre-sliced, consistent portions also reduce prep friction for sandwich builds, burgers and grilled cheese at home — a category that has benefited from sustained consumer interest in elevated at-home meals since the pandemic-era cooking surge.
For c-store retailers and foodservice buyers, the Deli American dairy-case expansion is worth tracking. Pre-sliced premium cheese in the grab-and-go or cold-vault set has shown steady velocity as operators look to upgrade sandwich and roller-grill programs beyond commodity single-wrap slices. The Land O'Lakes brand carries broad consumer recognition, which can ease trial when the SKU lands in a new channel or case position.
Channel Implications
"As consumers increasingly seek convenient, high-quality foods that fit today's busy lifestyles, we're focused on delivering products that make every eating occasion more enjoyable," said Heather Anfang, EVP and President of Dairy Foods at Land O'Lakes. The cooperative's dairy foods division markets butter, cheese, spreads and specialty ingredients through a network of more than 1,000 dairy-producer members across all 50 states.
The snack cube launch aligns with a broader industry shift toward portioned, protein-forward snacks in individually wrapped formats — a trend well-documented in convenience-channel snack category data from NACS. Single-serve cheese has outpaced bulk and larger-pack formats in c-store coolers as operators prioritize high-margin, low-shrink items that travel well. At $5.99 for an eight-count multipack, the Land O'Lakes entry sits above commodity string cheese but below premium charcuterie-style snack kits, carving a practical middle tier for family shoppers.
Northeast regional availability will be the near-term constraint for the Snack Cheese Cubes. Whether Land O'Lakes extends the line west and into additional channels — including the convenience and drug store tiers — will depend on early velocity at the current retail doors.
