Greenhouse salad and fresh foods brand Gotham Greens posted 18% retail sales growth year-over-year through August 2026 and is doubling down on that trajectory with two organizational moves: the appointment of its first Chief Commercial Officer and a national sales agency partnership built to accelerate retail distribution.

The Hires

Natalie Barber Halpern joins as CCO in a newly created role that consolidates sales, marketing, and innovation under one commercial organization. Her remit is to deepen retail partnerships, strengthen brand positioning, and drive new product launches across Gotham Greens' expanding fresh CPG portfolio. Halpern spent years scaling health and wellness brands at Haleon — leading the U.S. Advil franchise and working across Centrum, Caltrate, Sensodyne, and Parodontax — before that, she held roles at The Clorox Company supporting Hidden Valley Ranch, Kingsford, Glad, and Clorox brands, and later at Nature's Variety on the Instinct premium pet nutrition line.

"We have an opportunity to create a truly differentiated fresh food brand that holds a bigger place in consumers' lives and expands into new eating occasions that make meals easier and more delicious," Halpern said. She also cited a "significant surge in consumer awareness and engagement" tied to renewed interest in food safety and greenhouse-grown produce following a recent Cyclospora outbreak — a tailwind that retailers stocking locally produced, controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) items will recognize.

Distribution Push

Alongside the CCO appointment, Gotham Greens is partnering with C.A. Fortune, a national integrated commerce agency, to manage headquarter sales across key retail accounts. C.A. Fortune brings an in-store field team plus integrated marketing, shopper insights, and digital commerce capabilities — a full-service model increasingly favored by emerging fresh food brands looking to compete for shelf space against established produce and refrigerated-dressing players.

"Retailers are looking for brands that can deliver reliable supply, differentiated consumer products and incremental growth in-store and on a screen," said Tyler Lowell, Managing Partner and CEO of C.A. Fortune. For c-store operators and grocery-adjacent retailers evaluating the refrigerated perimeter, that pitch maps directly to how category buyers are vetting fresh food vendors: supply reliability first, brand pull second.

Gotham Greens currently sells through more than 6,500 retail doors — including Whole Foods, Kroger, Sprouts, Albertsons, Publix, Target, and Amazon Fresh — operating a network of climate-controlled hydroponic greenhouses across nine states. The company holds the No. 1 basil brand position in Nielsen's total U.S. xAOC scan data and ranks as the fastest-growing greenhouse-grown salad kit line in CEA-tracked channels (52 weeks ending August 29, 2026). New salad kit SKUs are slated to debut at the Global Produce & Floral Show, October 15–16 in Orlando.

What It Means for Retailers

For convenience and small-format operators already building out refrigerated produce sets — a segment tracked closely by foodservice-at-retail analysts — Gotham Greens' distribution expansion is worth watching. CEA produce carries a food-safety story that resonates with category managers navigating fresh food supply chain scrutiny, and the brand's basil, pesto, and dip lines give buyers options beyond the standard salad bag. CEO Craig Stevenson, appointed earlier this year, framed the dual moves as the foundation for long-term profitable growth: "We're better positioned than ever to expand distribution, drive velocity and household penetration, and deliver long-term profitable growth across our portfolio."

The 18% sales growth figure — sourced from Nielsen xAOC across packaged salads, herbs, kits, dressings, dips, and cooking sauces — signals that controlled-environment produce is gaining sustainable shelf traction, not just novelty placement.
